OEUVRE BACKGROUNDThe name of the honorable artist of Uzbekistan, Yunus Gulzarov, is well known; the talented musician pulverized the hearts of mainstream audience. His performing activity was started in 1970. It was the time when many musicians showed their interest to saxophone and the problems that the executants and schoolmasters had faced while exploring this instrument. Over 30 years have passed since that time. Today, Yunus Gulzarov, who is fairly called “the Gold Saxophone of Uzbekistan”, is Honorable Artist of the Republic of Uzbekistan, laureate of the 11th Moscow Worldwide Festival of the Youth and Students, winner of the awards of numerous music competitions and shows. On the Festival of Jazz Music in Tashkent in 1986, he was voted the best saxophone player. Above all, he is a concertizing musician, soloist, ensemble participant, director. Over a period of many years, he has been successfully performing in various jazz bands, as well as classical programs with such piano players as Anna Grinberg and the Honorable artist of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abida Sharipova. As a soloist, he performed for audiences in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Aktyubinsk, Tashkent, Samarkand, Fergana, Bukhara, Navoi, Termez. The musician plays with full heart both for the professionals in the halls of the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan, and for military and children audience, as well as for studying youth. The player is often invited to participate in radio and television shows, and government-level concerts. From 1980, the musician was Musical Director of Navo pop group in Tashkent. From 1981, he was the Head of Estrada Department and the Director of big band Estrada orchestra of Tashkent State Music College named after Khamza. In 1988 – 1991, he was a professor of Band and Drum Instruments Department of Tashkent Conservatory. In 1993, the musician was a soloist of the Showpiece Orchestra of the Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan. From 1995 till 1997 he was the head and art director of the Ensemble of Song and Dance of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and from 1997 till 1999 Mr. Gulzarov was employed as the Head of the Showpiece Orchestra of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan. From 2000 till 2006, the musician served as the Head of Ensemble of Song and Dance of Border Troops of the National Security Service of Uzbekistan. At present, Yunus Gulzarov is Lieutenant Colonel in reserve and a concertizing musician, whose repertoire includes famous opuses for clarinet and saxophone, world classical music, works of Uzbek composers, Estrada and popular music, jazz songs and adaptations of folk melodies. His artistic talent is found consonant with the instrument, the saxophone in his hands becomes responsive to the finest performing intentions. Meanwhile, the musician skillfully masters all varieties of saxophones family, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, which always grabs the interest of the public. For him, playing the sax is "an ongoing dialogue and interaction with the surrounding world". It is difficult, for example, to forget the evening, which is recalled with delight by many professionals: a joint performance of Yunus Gulzarov and magnificent trio of George Garanyan, Daniel Kramer and Anatoly Kuznetsov. It was held at the Palace of "Turkistan" as a Jam session based on jazz improvisation. The theme for improvisation was "One Note Blues” greeted by an enthusiastic audience with a storm of applause which did not let the musicians to leave the stage for a long time. Bright performing personality of Yunus Gulzarov was reflected in the book of Professor K.T. Azimov "Conductors of Uzbekistan" (2001). Apart from this, various media have published a number of articles about the saxophone player. All these years, he is stubborn to a good fanaticism in his occupation. He is always full of vigor and creative energy, the living and permanent interest in everything that happens in modern musical life. Every time an artist enters the stage, he feels happy, because the stage is his breath, his life. The tremendous energy and enthusiasm of a talented performer contributes to the development of playing brass of Uzbekistan. |
